Strong Statements

Michael Andrews, a former set dresser, opened his LA store, Inheritance, in 2009. Housed inside a crumbling 1920s loft, it’s an ever-evolving mix of vintage masculine furniture, delicate fine china, and curiosities with history, with a focus on the beauty and character that come with age and decay. Eclectically mixed and layered, the store conjures the spirit of European antiques stores and markets, and reflects its owner’s flair for the dramatic and the dynamic. “Never let the eye rest,” he says. “Always try to have it land on something interesting.”

Modern Classic

Robert Zizzo began collecting Mid-Century Modern furnishings purely for the love of the hunt, but his nine-year-old shop, Modlife, has since evolved into one of Chicago’s most sought-after resource for collectors, designers, curators, and set decorators. Original furnishings from the 1940s to the 1970s are meticulously reupholstered, refinished, and reinvented for today’s settings, appearing alongside contemporary and vintage modern art, sculpture, and accessories. His pieces have appeared on the sets of Mad Men, The Break-Up, and The Playboy Club.
